ENMAN/HURSEY BUILDING – Asheville,
NC
The Enman/Hursey Building, built for Hursey & Company Jewelers
in 1926, was built of steel and reinforced concrete with a limestone
façade, and was considered to be fireproof. Our renovations
included refurbishing and reinstalling the original Art Deco light
fixtures, reopening the mezzanine levels to their original glory,
replacing the 1970's entry with one more compatible with the Art
Deco façade and installation of a code-compliant exit stair
with terrazzo treads and risers. The project received a Griffin
Award for Excellence in Preservation.
