120 College Street - Apartments

Adjacent to City Hall and facing Asheville’s main public park the 1914 Asheville Gazette-News Building housed various businesses on the main street level over the years. The two upper floors, abandoned for decades, were in great need of repair prior to any type of occupancy. This extensive renovation project resulted in a new home for the Black Mountain College Museum on the Main and Lower Floors of the building, as well as three residential apartments on the Upper Floors. Historic features of the building were preserved and restored per the National Park Service’s Secretary of Interiors standards, while upgrading all utilities and providing building code compliance for floor load capacities, exiting and fire-rating. The project included exterior terraces with views of the surrounding urban fabric of the City.
