Rankin Press Lofts

The project consisted of five interconnecting existing buildings each with its own individual structural layouts creating a challenge to develop a cohesive layout.  The street levels at N. Lexington and Rankin have been revitalized into five commercial spaces and the levels above contain 13 unique residential condos with the main entrance on Rankin.  Two floors were added to the Rankin side.  The new addition was rendered in a more contemporary style, thus delineating it from the existing historic façade (per historic guidelines).  The historic façade was preserved and the original fenestrations re-opened.  Double hung and transom windows matching the historic originals were installed.  Inside, the original warehouse open floor plan was brought back with existing exposed steel columns/beams, brick walls, hardwood floors, and wood roof trusses above.  Each residential unit was carefully fitted in the existing conditions providing unique exposure to the historic layout that varies from floor to floor.  The remnants of original 1920s painted Miller Press sign on what was at one time the exterior of the building was uncovered and left intact visible within one of the residential units.   All new systems (plumbing, mechanical, electrical, sprinkler, elevator) were installed providing modern comforts and safety.
