COBURN APARTMENTS - Asheville, NC

Built in 1912 as an osteopathic sanitarium the Ottari Sanitarium was considerably enlarged in 1923 to a total of forty bedrooms, thirty-five baths and thirty porches. Working for the family who converted the building to 34 apartments in the 1930's we provided a code study and drawings for life-safety improvements. Renovations included enclosing stairwells to create fire-rated shafts, fire-rating windows and doors as necessary, and improving access to exterior exit stairs.
