WCQS FM - EAGLES HOME BUILDING
This 1914 structure in downtown Asheville, originally built for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, now houses the WCQS-FM radio station on the main floor, with offices and residential units on the upper levels. Modifications were made to incorporate changing needs. Infrastructure improvements included upgrading plumbing, mechanical, electrical systems, the addition of a sprinkler system, and an elevator. Structural deficiencies were corrected and the façade was restored. Renovations were performed while the building was occupied and still broadcasting 24/7. The project received a Griffin Award for excellence in preservation.
